CAPOEIRA BRASIL LOS ANGELES

Media/PR

CBLA (Capoeira Brasil, Los Angeles) offers programs for kids and adults, hosts workshops and festivals, and performs at schools, private parties, concerts, cultural fairs, and community events through out Southern California. In addition to work in the cultural and fitness community, members of CBLA's teaching staff and performance troupe can be seen regularly in feature films, national commercials, and on tour in productions throughout the USA. The organization works with a diverse body of youth and adults, continually developing new projects, organizing cultural events and teaching in long standing programs such as STAR After-school enrichment and in cutting edge charter schools. Since its founding in 1989, CBLA and its artistic director Mestre Boneco have successfully cultivated a uniquely talented artist/athlete community that serves Southern California in countless capacities.

Enriching Los Angeles's cultural landscape and sharing the art of Capoeira with youth and adults through out the city are a central focus for CBLA. After-school programs, educational assemblies and public workshops are a large part of the group's event calendar. Mestre Boneco also offers a scholarship program to under-resourced youth that express a dedicated desire to train the art of Capoeira and learn about its rich history of struggle and liberation. CBLA's mission is making physical, mental, and social health a reality through the movement, music, and tradition of Capoeira.

CB-LA has been featured on NBC's Today show, CNN's Headline news Channel, FOX news, KABC-TV, FOX 11's Good Day LA and Better Bodies, NBC's EXTRA, Univision's Primer Impacto, Telemundo's Morning news, the KTLA Morning Show, Dr. 90210, VH1's Hollywood's Tightest Bodies, and many other local and national television programs. Capoeira Brasil was also the subject of an LA Times feature story (Jan. 21, 2003) and Several SELF magazine fitness and feature articles (August. 2004, July 2005, & Sept. 2007).

CBLA is home to many of Hollywood's top martial artists, trainers, acrobats, stuntmen and actors. Members of the organization have choreographed and worked on a number of high profile projects and are continually sought after for their experience, creativity, awesome ability and professionalism.

Throughout the United States, Capoeira Brasil has satellite groups in New York, Boston, San Diego, Long Beach, Phoenix, Tempe, Tucson, Durham, and College Station. Just across the border, CB has classes in Tijuana, Mexicali, and Ensenada.

Here in Los Angeles, we have satellite programs at UCLA, Cal State LA, LMU, XTC Training Center in Eagle Rock, XMA in North Hollywood and in many LA County schools. Internationally the group is in over 25 countries spanning 5 continents. In Brasil, the group continues to be the standard to which the art of Capoeira is measured.
